About Paggaio Hills

The Pangaion Hills are a mountain range in Greece, approximately 40 km from Kavala. The highest elevation is 1,956 m and the mountaintop name is Koutra. The Aegean Sea lies to the south and the plains of Philippi-Drama to the north The mountain ranges covers the southeastern portion of the Serres regional unit as well as northwestern part of the Kavala regional unit which covers the most part of the hills.

 

Mount Biking in Paggaio

Mount Paggaio is a brilliant destination for those who enjoy mountain biking in a tranquil area of unique natural beauty. Located in Northern Greece, the region of Paggaio is a place of exceptional beauty, as it combines an amazing variety of flora and lovely views. The highest peak of Mount Paggaio is “Mati”, at an altitude of 1,956 m. Getting to Paggaio is only an hour and a half away from the city of Thessaloniki.

There are hundreds of different routes available for bikers in the region. Amateurs have the chance to explore the surroundings of Mount Paggaio, as there are dozens of small villages in the region. Experts, on the other hand, can follow harder routes leading from one peak to another. Mountain biking through remote pathways, enormous trees, and creeks is an experience that bikers will never forget.

 

Skiing in Paggaio

Paggaio is one of the smallest ski centres in Greece located just 42 km from Kavala and believed to be the place where Alexander the great hid his stores of gold. There are two ski runs and Paggaio has one ski lift with one baby lift .Whilst Paggaio does not have the infrastructure of other resorts in Greece there are plans to expand this centre. A small shelter in the resort can accommodate up to 90 people. Many people visit the area for the sheer natural beauty of the Valley of Orfeas.
